Songs for Worship – January 26, 2020

Resources for personal devotion and/or family worship—whether planned or impromptu (e.g., like singing together in the car).

These song arrangements will differ in varying degrees from what you’ll hear at Cross Park, yet these melodies will prepare you for making “a joyful noise to the LORD!”

Holy Is the LORD

We stand and lift up our hands for the joy of the LORD is our strength!
We bow down and worship him now––how great, how awesome is he!
And together we sing,

Holy is the LORD God Almighty! The earth is filled with his glory!
Holy is the LORD God Almighty! The earth is filled with his glory;
The earth is filled with his glory!

We stand and lift up our hands for the joy of the LORD is our strength!
We bow down and worship him now––how great, how awesome is he!
And together we sing––everyone sing,   Chorus

It’s rising up all around; it’s the anthem of the Lord’s renown!   (repeat)

And together we sing––everyone sing,
Holy is the LORD God Almighty! The earth is filled with his glory
Holy is the LORD God Almighty! The earth is filled with his glory!   Chorus

Grace Alone

I was an orphan, lost at the fall,
Running away when I’d hear your call;
But Father, you worked your will.
I had no righteousness of my own;
I had no right to draw near your throne;
But Father, you loved me still.

And, in love, before you laid the world’s foundation,
You predestined to adopt me as your own.
You have raised me up so high above my station––
I’m a child of God by grace and grace alone!

You left your home to seek out the lost;
You knew the great and terrible cost;
But Jesus, your face was set.
I worked my fingers down to the bone;
Nothing I did could ever atone;
But Jesus, you paid my debt!

By your blood I have redemption and salvation!
Lord, you died that I might reap what you have sown;
And you rose that I might be a new creation––
I am born again by grace and grace alone!

I was in darkness all of my life;
I never knew the day from the night;
But Spirit, you made me see.
I swore I knew the way on my own––
Head full of rocks, a heart made of stone––
But Spirit, you moved in me.

At your touch, my sleeping spirit was awakened;
On my darkened heart the light of Christ has shone;
Called into a kingdom that cannot be shaken––
Heaven’s citizen by grace and grace alone!

So I’ll stand in faith by grace and grace alone!
I will run the race by grace and grace alone!
I will slay my sin by grace and grace alone!
I will reach the end by grace and grace alone!

One Thing Remains

Higher than the mountains that I face;
Stronger than the power of the grave;
Constant in the trial and the change;
One thing remains! One thing remains:

Your love never fails, it never gives up, never runs out on me!   (3x)
Your love!

On and on and on and on it goes
It overwhelms and satisfies my soul
And I never ever have to be afraid
One thing remains! One thing remains:

Your love never fails, it never gives up, never runs out on me!   (3x)
Your love!

In death, in life,
I’m confident and cover’d by the power
of your great love!
My debt is paid––
there’s nothing that can separate my heart
from your great love!

On and on and on and on it goes
It overwhelms and satisfies my soul
And I never ever have to be afraid
One thing remains! One thing remains:

Your love never fails, it never gives up, never runs out on me!   (repeat)

Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but thou art mighty;
Hold me with thy powerful hand
Bread of heaven,
Feed me now and evermore!
Bread of heaven,
Feed me now and evermore!

Open now the crystal fountain
Whence the healing waters flow.
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through.
Strong Deliverer,
Be thou still my Strength and Shield!
Strong Deliverer,
Be thou still my Strength and Shield!

When I tread the verge of Jordan
Bid my anxious fears subside.
Death of deaths, and hell’s destruction!
Land me safe on Canaan’s side.
Songs of praises
I will ever give to thee!
Songs of praises
I will ever give to Thee!

Land me safe on Canaan’s side,
Bid my anxious fears;
Bid my anxious fears;
Land me safe on Canaan’s side,
Bid my anxious fears, goodbye!

Go To Dark Gethsemane

Go to dark Gethsemane,
ye that feel the tempter’s power
Your Redeemer’s conflict see,
watch with Him one bitter hour
Turn not from His griefs away;
learn of Jesus Christ to pray.
Learn of Jesus Christ to pray.

See Him at the judgment hall,
beaten, bound, reviled, arraigned
O the wormwood and the gall!
O the pangs His soul sustained!
Shun not suffering, shame, or loss;
learn of Christ to bear the cross!
Learn of Christ to bear the cross!

Calvary’s mournful mountain climb;
there, adoring at His feet
Mark that miracle of time,
God’s own sacrifice complete
“It is finished!” hear Him cry;
learn of Jesus Christ to die!
Learn of Jesus Christ to die!

Early hasten to the tomb
where they laid His breathless clay
All is solitude and gloom.
Who has taken Him away?
Christ is risen! He meets our eyes;
Savior, teach us so to rise!
Savior, teach us so to rise!

Let Your Kingdom Come

Your glorious cause, O God,
Engages our hearts.
May Jesus Christ be known
Wherever we are.
We ask not for ourselves
But for your renown.
The cross has saved us, so we pray
Your kingdom come!

Let your kingdom come,
Let your will be done;
So that ev’ryone might know your Name!
Let your song be heard
Ev’rywhere on earth,
Till your sov’reign work on earth is done––
Let your kingdom come!

Give us your strength, O God,
And courage to speak.
Perform your wondrous deeds
Through those who are weak.
Lord use us as you want––
Whatever the test.
By grace we’ll preach your gospel till
Our dying breath!   Chorus

Let your will be done;
So that ev’ryone might know your Name!
Let your song be heard
Ev’rywhere on earth,
Till your sov’reign work on earth is done!   Chorus
