Songs for Worship – August 4, 2019

Resources for personal devotion and/or family worship—whether planned or impromptu (e.g., like singing together in the car).

These song arrangements will differ in varying degrees from what you’ll hear at Cross Park, yet these melodies will prepare you for making “a joyful noise to the LORD!”

Dawning Light of Our Salvation

Long in darkness Israel wandered;
Long, in mortal shadows, we
Walked in bondage and self-pity,
Trod in paths of sin and grief.
In the prophets’ words he told us,
Long the God of Israel spoke,
He alone in strength would save us
From the hands of all our foes.

Every valley, be exalted!
Every mountain, be made plane!
Crooked ways, repent and straighten!
All creation, bend in praise!

He shall raise a mighty Savior;
Born of David’s lineage, he
Comes in cov’nant love to claim us,
From our sins to set us free.
Light to those who dwell in darkness,
Life to those from death who flee,
Joy unto the earth, and gladness,
To your pathways dawning peace!   Chorus

Jesus, Lord, and mighty Savior,
David’s Son, and yet his King,
Dawning Light of our salvation,
Of your saving pow’r we sing!
Stand, O lame, and dance, ye broken,
Know the Savior’s healing grace;
Come, O deaf, and hear him singing;
Turn, O blind, behold his face!   Chorus

I Need Thee Every Hour

I need thee ev’ry hour,
most gracious Lord;
no tender voice like thine
can peace afford.

I need thee, O I need thee!
Ev’ry hour I need thee!
O bless me now, my Savior!
I come to thee.

I need thee ev’ry hour;
stay thou near by;
temptations lose their pow’r
when thou art nigh.   Chorus

I need thee ev’ry hour,
in joy or pain;
come quickly, and abide,
or life is vain.   Chorus

I need thee ev’ry hour;
teach me thy will,
and thy rich promises
in me fulfil.   Chorus

I need thee ev’ry hour,
Most Holy One;
O make me thine indeed,
thou blessed Son.   Chorus

Resting Place

My faith has found a resting place,
Not in my work or deed.
I trust the Ever-living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.

I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.

Enough for me that Jesus saves!
This ends my fear and doubt!
A sinful soul, I come to Him,
He’ll never cast me out!   Chorus

The wondrous cross, your precious blood,
Your sacrifice, it is enough!

Your love has led me up that hill;
To the cross you are leading still!   Chorus

Psalm 3

1 O LORD, how many are my foes!
How many up against me rise?
2 And of my soul how many say,
“His God to him no help supplies!”

3 But you, O LORD, my glory are,
You lift my head; you are my shield;
4 And to the LORD I cried aloud;
He answered from his holy hill!

5 Although surrounded, I lay down.
I slept and woke again, sustained.
The LORD upholds me; 6 I’ll not fear,
Though many thousands seek my end.

7 Arise, O LORD my God, and save!
Strike down the wicked; break my foes!
8 Salvation full belongs to God,
Your blessing may your people know!

Words: vv 1-2 from The Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs of the Old and New Testament, 1758; vv 3-8 Will Milks; Music: Laura Taylor; Arr. Will Milks; 2004 © double v music; CCLI License #11029770

O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus

O the deep, deep love of Jesus: vast, unmeasured, boundless, free,
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me.
Underneath me, all around me is the current of thy love,
Leading onward, leading homeward, to thy glorious rest above.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus: spread his praise from shore to shore!
How he loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore!
How he watches o’er his loved ones, died to call them all his own;
How for them he intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus: love of every love the best!
‘Tis an ocean vast of blessing, ’tis a haven sweet of rest.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus: ’tis a heav’n of heav’ns to me,
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to thee.
How it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to thee!
