Songs for Worship – September 9, 2018

Resources for personal devotion and/or family worship––whether planned or impromptu (e.g., like singing together in the car).

These song arrangements will differ in varying degrees from what you’ll hear at Cross Park, yet these melodies will prepare you for making “a joyful noise to the LORD!”

Sing His Love

Father, long before creation, you have chosen us in love,
And that love, so deep, so moving, draws us close to Christ above.
Still it keeps us, still it keeps us firmly fixed in Christ alone.

And the world will sing his love,
Yes the world will sing his love,
And we’ll all join hands, every woman, every man,
To sing his love, to sing his love.

Though the world may change its fashion, yet our God is ever the same;
His compassion and his cov’nant through all ages will remain.
God’s own children, God’s own children must forever praise his name.  Chorus

God’s compassion is my story, is my boasting all the day;
Mercy free and never failing moves my will, directs my way.
God so loved us, God so loved us that his only Son he gave.  Chorus

Loving Father, now before you, we will ever praise your love,
And our songs will sound unceasing till we reach our home above,
Giving glory, giving glory to our God and to the Lamb.  Chorus

Dawning Light Of Our Salvation

Long in darkness Israel wandered;
Long, in mortal shadows, we
Walked in bondage and self-pity,
Trod in paths of sin and grief.
In the prophets’ words he told us,
Long the God of Israel spoke,
He alone in strength would save us
From the hands of all our foes.

Every valley, be exalted!
Every mountain, be made plane!
Crooked ways, repent and straighten!
All creation, bend in praise!

He shall raise a mighty Savior;
Born of David’s lineage, he
Comes in cov’nant love to claim us,
From our sins to set us free.
Light to those who dwell in darkness,
Life to those from death who flee,
Joy unto the earth, and gladness,
To your pathways dawning peace! Chorus

Jesus, Lord, and mighty Savior,
David’s Son, and yet his King,
Dawning Light of our salvation,
Of your saving pow’r we sing!
Stand, O lame, and dance, ye broken,
Know the Savior’s healing grace;
Come, O deaf, and hear him singing;
Turn, O blind, behold his face! Chorus

O Day of Rest and Gladness

O day of rest and gladness, O day of joy and light,
O balm of care and sadness, most beautiful, most bright!
On Thee, the high and lowly, through ages joined in tune
Sing holy, holy, holy, to the great God Triune!

On Thee, at the creation, the light first had its birth;
On Thee, for our salvation, Christ rose from depths of earth;
On Thee, our Lord, victorious, the Spirit sent from heav’n,
And thus on Thee, most glorious, a triple light was giv’n!

Thou art a port protected, from storms that round us rise;
A garden intersected, with streams of paradise;
Thou art a cooling fountain in life’s dry dreary sand,
From Thee, like Pisgah’s mountain, we view our promised land!

Today on weary nations, the heav’nly manna falls!
To holy convocations, the silver trumpet calls
Where gospel light is glowing with pure and radiant beams,
And living water flowing with soul-refreshing streams!

New graces ever gaining from this, our day of rest!
We reach the rest remaining to spirits of the blessed!
To Holy Ghost be praises, to Father and to Son,
The church, her voice upraises to Thee, blessed Three in One!

Jesus Cast a Look on Me

Jesus cast a look on me,
Give me sweet simplicity
Make me poor and keep me low,
Seeking only Thee to know

All that feeds my busy pride,
Cast it evermore aside
Bid my will to Thine submit,
Lay me humbly at Thy feet

Make me like a little child,
Of my strength and wisdom spoiled
Seeing only in Thy light,
Walking only in Thy might

Leaning on Thy loving breast,
Where a weary soul can rest
Feeling well the peace of God,
Flowing from His precious blood

In this posture let me live,
And hosannas daily give
In this temper let me die,
And hosannas ever cry!

Lord I Need You

Lord, I come, I confess;
Bowing here I find my rest;
Without you I fall apart––
You’re the One who guides my heart

Lord, I need you, Oh, I need you
Every hour I need you
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need you

Where sin runs deep, your grace is more;
Where grace is found, is where you are;
And where you are, Lord, I am free––
Holiness is Christ in me!   Chorus

Teach my song to rise to you
When temptation comes my way;
And when I cannot stand, I’ll fall on you;
Jesus, you’re my hope and stay!   Chorus
